Pegasus Life secured planning permission through public inquiry for a Sarah Wigglesworth Architects scheme for a C2 assisted living community at The Knowle, Sidmouth, Devon. The Design Review Panel (www.designreviewpanel.co.uk) were instructed by East Devon District Council (EDDC) to provide multidisciplinary, expert, independent and impartial guidance and feedback to the local authority, applicant and design team during the pre-application design stage.

Tom Banfield

Chartered Architect

Tom Banfield is an accomplished and highly proficient Chartered Architect with over 11 years of post-qualification experience. He currently holds the role of Associate Director at Assael Architecture, a leading London-based architectural practice. Tom has extensive experience leading large-scale, complex residential and mixed-use developments across the UK. His expertise spans from conceptual design and planning through to project implementation, with a strong emphasis on residential, co-living, and integrated community projects.

At Assael Architecture, Tom is responsible for overseeing significant developments, including a 230-home integrated retirement community in London, a 34-storey residential tower in Birmingham, and a co-location project combining industrial and residential uses in East London. His role involves not only managing teams and project delivery but also ensuring profitability and building strong client relationships.

Tom has a comprehensive understanding of the UK planning process, which allows him to navigate the complexities of project approvals while optimizing design outcomes. He is particularly skilled at leading teams to deliver high-quality, sustainable urban environments that enhance the built environment and contribute positively to the communities they serve.

With a deep commitment to design excellence and client satisfaction, Tom’s work has been recognised through various awards, including shortlisting in the New London Architecture Awards for the Vulcan Wharf project. His leadership in the field is underpinned by a solid educational foundation, having completed his architectural training at the University of Portsmouth and London Metropolitan University.

Tom continues to make a significant impact on the architectural landscape, balancing a passion for innovative design with a pragmatic approach to project delivery. Now based in the South West, he remains actively involved in London projects while enjoying time with his family and pursuing personal interests in sport and DIY.
